MARINAS & fISHING
Charlotte Harbor & the Gulf Islands is known world wide as one of the world’s top sport fishing destinations. Charlotte Harbor is Florida’s second-largest open water estuary and is formed by the blending of saltwater from the Gulf of Mexico with freshwater from the Peace and Myakka rivers. This supports an important ecological breeding ground for numerous fish such as tarpon, snook, redfish, barracuda, cobia and grouper.
Deep-sea, back-bay and flats fishing bring dedicated anglers to the Charlotte Harbor area in search of their own personal records or International Game Fish Association world records.
Boca Grande Pass is one of the deepest natural inlets in Florida with depths of 70 ft. – making the fishing one of the reasons many fishermen come here to live.
Between April & August
Boca Grande Pass becomes home to the worlds largest Tarpon population and brings the big game fishermen. Also known as Silverking, the fish are known to weigh upwards to 200#s and deliver quite a thrilling fight often leaping 20′ into the air.
The back country angler fishing is also well known here as fish such as snook, redfish, snapper, popano – just to mention a few are sought after.
